How to Secure Furniture in a Moving Truck, U-Haul, & Box Truck - Load Securement & Strapping Tips
07/14/2024
In this video Sean teaches you how to strap and secure furniture in a fully loaded moving truck, U-Haul, or box truck. Properly securing your loaded belongings is extremely important to keep your load from shifting as you drive. A properly secured load will keep your belongings from becoming damaged and prevent accidents from the loss of a load. Finally, properly securing your load will keep other drivers on the road around you safe. It is not just a good idea to secure your loaded truck, it is mandated by law. Local, state, and federal laws have been implemented to insure properly load securement in order to keep everyone on the road safe. For this reason, Sean decided to explain how to secure a tier of furniture without any extra assistance. He then shows you how to secure a tier of furniture while using a mattress and boxspring to assist with securing the load.

There are many laws that govern the securement of loaded vehicles. Please refer to your local, state, and federal laws before transporting anything. For example, this excerpt from Title 75 of Pennsylvania's vehicle code: § 4903. Securing loads in vehicles: (a) General rule. - No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any highway unless the vehicle is so constructed or loaded as to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping. (b) Fastening load. - Every load on a vehicle shall be fastened so as to prevent the load or covering from becoming loose, detached or in any manner a hazard to other users of the highway.... etc. The full text can be found in Title 75 of Pennsylvania's vehicle code under 4903, Securing loads in vehicles.
More load securement rules from the federal government can be found on the FMCSA website linked here: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/cargo-securement/cargo-securement-rules
